GIS functions for suitability index The basic spatial analysis –overlay and buffer The fundamental difference between GIS and other computer mapping
1. Analysis tools in ArcGIS The analysis tools are a collection of geo-processing toolsets. They work primarily on coverages, spatial features, and related attribute data.
Extract Toolset
- These tools extract spatial features from a coverage or a
set of coverages, based on attribute queries, and store them in a new coverage.
Overlay Toolset
- These tools overlay two coverages to combine, erase, or
update spatial features in a new coverage.
Proximity Toolset - These tools determine the proximity of spatial features within a coverage or between two coverages.
Statistics Toolset - These tools perform standard statistical analyses on attribute data
2. Help in ArcGIS ArcTollbox help
Arc help Arc: help Arc: quit
ArcGIS's layers are organized by feature class and by theme Feature classes in ArcGIS - Points, lines, areas, annotation, region, etc.
3. Overlay Union Intersect Identity
