In 2005, my long-time birding friend and mentor, Ben Feltner, set the goal
of seeing at least 500 species of birds in the "ABA area" (basically,
Canada and the USA, minus Hawaii), in the year of his 70th birthday.
I decided to go along on some of his trips and also try for 500.
