Heath Robinson is in his fourth and final year of his Ph.D. study in geography. Through the IGERT program he as developed an interest in spatial ontology and merged that with his already existing interests in geographic information systems and political geography. His dissertation research is focused on geopolitical ontologies, especially the ontology of states and statehood, for use in knowledge computation engines such as the recently released Wolfram|Alpha or the True Knowledge System now in beta. He hopes to apply his academic study to developing ontology-enabled and semantically aware geographic information systems.
