Barry Kronenfeld

Barry Kronenfeld

Assistant Professor, Geography
George Mason University

Barry Kronenfeld entered the IGERT Program in fall 1999 after receiving a B.A. from Cornell University and attending Nanzan University in Nagoya Japan for one year. During his time in the IGERT program, he participated in fieldwork activities for vegetation mapping projects in Keystone State Park, Pennsylvania and Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. These projects led him to explore data models to represent gradation in vegetation maps, which became the topic of his doctoral dissertation. After receiving his Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo Geography Department, Barry was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Geography at George Mason University starting in Fall 2004, where he currently teaches classes in physical geography and geographic information science. His research interests include cartography, environmental data modeling, biogeography, geostatistics, and spatial statistics.
