March 2009 : The IGERT program in GIScience will no longer offer fellowship to new students. 

Funding may be available from the participating departments.

Incoming and current UB doctoral students should consider our Advanced Certificate in Geographic Information Science program.

An innovative interdisciplinary program designed for doctoral students in the following departments:

AnthropologyGeography Geology Philosophy
Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering
Computer Science & Engineering •  Industrial Engineering 

Experience a new model of doctoral education that combines interdisciplinary science with a wealth of practical experience, opportunities and research training.

Geographic Information Science  

An emerging field that seeks to understand the nature of geographic information and its role in society, and to provide theoretical foundations for GIS and related technology.  GIS constitutes a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States with many applications ranging from environmental health, national security, and basic science and engineering.

 

Applications for 2009 Summer School session will be due by March 27 2009.
