GI Science Program for Doctoral Students

The IGERT program in GIScience will be offering several two-year funding packages to begin in Fall 2008. This package will be for one year of IGERT NSF Fellowship support followed by one year of enhanced university funding. Additional years of funding may be available from departments or from research grants. Fellowships will be available until all openings are filled, but for full consideration, please submit an application through the IGERT web site as soon as possible, since most decisions will be made in early February 2008.

Incoming and current UB doctoral students should also consider our Advanced Certificate in Geographic Information Science program.

An innovative interdisciplinary program designed for doctoral students in the following departments:

AnthropologyGeography Geology Philosophy
Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering
Computer Science & Engineering •  Industrial Engineering

Experience a new model of doctoral education that combines interdisciplinary science with a wealth of practical experience, opportunities and research training.

Geographic Information Science

An emerging field that seeks to understand the nature of geographic information and its role in society, and to provide theoretical foundations for GIS and related technology.  GIS constitutes a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States with many applications ranging from environmental health, national security, and basic science and engineering.

Applications for next year's Summer School session will be accepted early in 2008.
