GEOGRAPHY CAREER FAIR 2008
Thank you to all who attended and supported Geography Career Fair 2008 held on April 10th. It was a great success!
Representatives from 12 government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, and firms participated in the event. Approximately one third of the Geography students attended, along with students from a dozen other departments (i.e. Geology, Management, Engineering, etc.). Students enjoyed the benefit of communicating directly with the recruiters and to explore their career opportunities. Recruiters stated this is a unique opportunity for them to interview students who have specific qualifications that recruiters are seeking. Many recruiters expressed their satisfaction with the quality and preparedness of students and look forward to future career fairs. A number of positions are expected to be filled in the upcoming months.

Dear Employment Recruiter,
You are cordially invited to take part in the 4th Annual Career Fair hosted by the University at Buffalo – Geography Department. This exciting event will take place on Thursday, April 10th from 10am to 3pm. Our top graduating undergraduate and graduate students are interested in meeting representatives from local, regional, and national companies. Our graduates represent diverse backgrounds, having specialized in a number of focus areas including geographic information systems, urban and regional analysis, physical geography and environmental systems, and international business and world trade. Additionally, this year we have a number of graduates from our new 5 year bachelors/masters degree program in International Economic and Business Geographics, which allowed promising candidates to obtain both a bachelors and masters degree in 5 years.
Many of our students are encouraged to engage in interdisciplinary work, often in such areas as economics, computer science, psychology, geology, mathematics, marketing, statistics, information systems and environmental sciences. We believe that an interdisciplinary approach provides our graduates with a skill-set applicable to careers in many fields.
You will have the opportunity to meet with our students and discuss your company. Private meeting rooms will be available for you throughout the day. Additionally, we will happily meet any technology requests that your organization should require to ensure a successful event. We invite you to tour our facilities and meet the Directors of the National Center for Geographic Information Analysis and the Canada-U. S. Trade Center.
There is no cost to participate; we view this as an opportunity to engage our students with the local business community in an attempt to promote the region. We will provide each company with a table, table skirt, two chairs, and easel, if required, and any additional technology requirements. In addition, lunch will be provided for the participating company representatives.
If you are interested in participating in this event, please complete the online registration form by March 14th. We look forward to ensuring a successful event and aiding your organization in acquiring some brilliant minds!
Sincerely,
Dr. Peter Rogerson
Geography Department Chair
